What to Expect from a SkiBuddy Experience
You've heard about SkiBuddy, you're intrigued, but you're not entirely sure what to expect. That's completely normal — we're a different kind of experience than what most skiers are used to. Here's a detailed walkthrough of what happens when you book a SkiBuddy session, from start to finish.
The Booking Process
Booking a SkiBuddy starts on our website, where you'll select your resort, dates, and session type (half-day, full-day, or multi-day). During booking, we ask you a few questions about your skiing ability, what you're hoping to get out of the experience, and any specific interests or concerns. Do you want to find powder? Work on your mogul technique? Discover hidden runs? Simply have a fun day with a local? This information helps us match you with the perfect buddy.
Within 24 hours of booking, you'll receive a confirmation with your buddy's profile — their name, photo, experience, specialties, and a personal note. You can message your buddy directly through our platform to discuss meeting logistics, ask questions about conditions, or share any additional preferences. Many guests tell us the pre-trip communication alone adds excitement to their vacation.
Meeting Your Buddy
On the day of your session, you'll meet your buddy at a predetermined location — typically near the main base lodge or a specific lift. Your buddy will be wearing their SkiBuddy jacket and will greet you with a warm welcome and a quick introduction. The first fifteen minutes are spent getting to know each other, discussing the day's plan, and making sure everyone's gear is ready to go.
Your buddy will ask about your experience level and have you make a few turns on an easy run to assess your skiing firsthand. This isn't a test — it's how they calibrate the day's terrain choices to your actual ability, ensuring every run is appropriately challenging and fun.
The On-Mountain Experience
Once your buddy has a feel for your skiing, the real adventure begins. They'll take you on a curated tour of the mountain, selecting runs that match your ability while progressively introducing new terrain. Expect a mix of groomed runs, perhaps some gentle tree skiing, maybe a foray into a bowl or steeper terrain as the day progresses. Everything is flexible and responsive to how you're skiing and what you're enjoying.
Chairlift rides are where a lot of the magic happens. Your buddy shares stories about the mountain, points out landmarks, explains how weather and snow conditions affect different parts of the resort, and offers tips that will help on the next run. It's a natural, conversational learning experience that feels more like skiing with a knowledgeable friend than attending a class.
Your buddy will also share practical local knowledge throughout the day: which lodge has the best lunch, where to find the shortest lift lines, what time the afternoon light is best for photos, and where to go for après-ski. This insider information enhances your entire vacation, not just the day you're with your buddy.
Half-Day vs. Full-Day Sessions
Half-day sessions run approximately four hours — either morning or afternoon. Morning sessions are ideal if you want to catch first tracks and ski when conditions are typically best. Afternoon sessions work well for late risers or as a complement to a morning lesson.
Full-day sessions run approximately eight hours, including a break for lunch. The extended time allows your buddy to show you significantly more of the mountain and provides time for you to circle back to favorite runs. Many guests find the afternoon of a full-day session is when they really hit their stride — they're warmed up, confident, and ready to push their limits.
Multi-Day Packages
Our multi-day packages are where the real transformation happens. Over two or more days, your buddy can systematically introduce you to the entire mountain. Day one covers the fundamentals — the key lifts, the terrain that matches your level, the mountain's layout. Day two goes deeper — hidden runs, more challenging terrain, and nuances that take multiple sessions to absorb. By day three, you're skiing like a local.
Multi-day guests often form genuine friendships with their buddies. There's something about sharing the mountain over multiple days that creates a connection beyond the typical tourist-guide relationship. Many of our repeat customers request the same buddy year after year.
After Your Session
At the end of your session, your buddy will wrap up with après-ski recommendations and a summary of the runs and areas you covered, so you can return to them on your own for the rest of your trip. You'll receive a digital trail map marked with your buddy's top recommendations and any notes specific to your ability level.
You'll also have the opportunity to rate your experience and leave a review. This feedback is essential to maintaining our quality standards and helps future guests choose the right buddy. Most importantly, you'll leave the mountain with new skills, inside knowledge, and the confidence to explore on your own — which is exactly what a SkiBuddy experience is all about.
